Nakina Scott, MPA, MCC, LCMHC, LCAS-A
Co-Founder / CEO
As a Counselor, I seek to use faith-based principles and evidence-based psychology to help people better manage and/or resolve any issues in their lives. The goal is not only to assess, diagnose, and treat but to assist in achieving wholeness in mind, body, and spirit. I like to create a compassionate, safe & non-judgmental space in which individuals can work through issues causing present distress. Counseling helps by providing support and an outlet to express one’s deepest feelings and fears.

Lisa Adams, M.S., LCMHCS, LCAS
C0-Founder / COO
I have served as a licensed professional counselor in Charlotte, NC for over 16 years and have come to recognize that few people’s lives are untouched by the impact of mental illness and/or trauma. Many people suffer in silence with mental health challenges, some because of the associated stigma and others because they have just lost hope that things can be different. The mission of New Phase aligns with my continued passionate pursuit to offer hope to the hurting and working to end the stigma associated with mental illness through education and training. I believe that a strong and healthy therapeutic relationship is essential for there to be significant gains made towards recovery and that counseling is a collaborative process. I believe that the role of the counselor is to act as a catalyst, provide support and a safe place for individuals to examine their life and areas of need for change and growth. After becoming initially fully licensed as a counselor in 2005, I later became credentialed as a counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) on 5/25/2016. I am a dedicated proponent for the support, training and development of new clinicians entering the behavioral health field.

Nia Faye Cureton, M.S, LCMHC-A, NCC
Clinical Intern
I am a provisionally licensed therapist, and also a 2 nd year Doctoral Student at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Life can be overwhelming, with the constant pressure of daily responsibilities and the challenge of balancing people-pleasing, boundaries, and self-care. Many of us face anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, and even questions about faith and identity. If this resonates with you, I am here to help as we navigate these areas of your life together. My approach is Person-Centered Therapy, which means I believe in your innate ability to grow and self-actualize when provided with the right tools and resources. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment for my clients as they embark on this journey. I often compare the therapeutic process to a road trip—you are the driver, and I’m the passenger, here to guide you and offer encouragement along the way. I incorporate techniques from various therapeutic modalities to meet your unique needs, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help reframe unhelpful thought patterns.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to collaboratively find practical solutions
to challenges.
Faith-based counseling for those seeking to explore their beliefs, values, and spirituality in light of life’s challenges or as a means of personal growth.
I enjoy working with individuals, couples, groups, athletes, collegiate students, and adults, tailoring my approach to suit each client’s journey. I look forward to supporting you as we work together to help you thrive
